The 2016 Ski Swift Awards
Posted Wed 14th DecemberWith the year coming to a close, we thought we’d take a look back at what has been an excellent year on the slopes. What better way to celebrate than with our very first Ski Swift awards ceremony!
Breakthrough Resort
To kick things off, we’re taking a look at the resorts which have really come into their own over the last year - and are now competing with the big boys.
WINNER: Beitostolen, Norway. This magical Norwegian Winter Wonderland has wowed with its stunning scenery and perfect piste. Just 40km from Valdres airport, and with very few queues and a number of charming hotels, Beitostolen is one to watch in 2017.
Best Nightlife
Always a hotly contested title, the no.1 nightlife in the skiing World is an award reserved for those destinations which keep going all night long, and offer a little something for everyone, from those who love the #sesh to those who prefer a quiet drink.
WINNER: Ischgl, Austria. As soon as the lifts shut, the apres ski is in action. Ischgl has an unforgettable atmosphere, and the ideal range of venues from the traditional discotheque to quiet English bars. There’s even the chance to enjoy your nightlife slope-side.
Meanest Slopes
Courses for only the toughest, most experienced of skiers, the resort with the meanest slopes is certainly an accolade to be proud of.
WINNER: Verbier, Switzerland. With wide, lengthy runs reaching up to 15km, Verbier is a particularly popular resort with the Snowboarder. Having recently been awarded 5* by The Telegraph for its provisions for the advanced skier, it was no-brainer to crown Verbier here.
The Best Value Award
Whether you’re taking the whole family skiing or you’re just seeking out the best deal possible, securing good value on your investment is essential to a great skiing trip.
WINNER: Bansko, Bulgaria. We’re always in disbelief at the prices we’re able to offer on this modern Bulgarian resort, with everything adding up to more than £250pp - including a number of 4*, luxurious hotels.
Best Resort
This is the big one. The destination which has ticked all of the boxes for the perfect escape, experience or adventure on the slopes. Combining excellent runs, great value, brilliant entertainment, amazing aprés and stunning scenery, this is a resort not to be missed.
WINNER: La Plagne, France. An enormous skiing area catering for all abilities, you’re never far from where you need to be with an excellent cable car network. A nightlife which leaves you completely spoilt for choice, with many of the most popular venues offering courtesy buses which will drop you home in whichever of La Plagne’s villages you’re staying. Finally, the food is excellent, and reasonably priced even if you’re hoping to try some of the local delicacies. A must visit.
