France is a great place to ski, not only does it have a ski area for all skiers but it is so easy to get to from the UK. Many of the French airports are served from most UK airports and a lot of cheap airlines offer amazing prices and unusual durations from weekend ski trips through to longer stays

Also, the world famous snow train is a really quick and easy way to get you to some of the highest resorts in France, often overlooked, and can get you on the piste quicker than the average coach trip.

To celebrate French skiing, we have compiled our top 10 places to ski in France.

Tignes

With access to a whopping 320km of trails, Tignes is one of the highest in altitude, it also offers some of the best snow action in France. The Naturide area is halfway between piste and powder, making it the perfect place to have your first off-piste session.

Courchevel

Now, if you love a good celebrity spot then this is a great destination for you. Courchevel attracts people from all walks of life due to its perfectly groomed pistes and skiing for all levels and a fun area for kids.

La Plagne

This is a great destination if you are new to skiing, it has a relatively flat typography, but still has some epic off piste rides.

La Tania

This is a very pretty resort right in the middle of Le Trois Vallees – the location really couldn’t be better with easy local runs to Meribel and Courchevel, and a longer trip over to the Val Thorens valley.

Les Arcs

Les Arcs is made up of several villages all at different levels down the mountain. This is a great location for the advanced and adventurous intermediates wanting to cover some serious ground.

Meribel

Meribel is known for its nightlife and challenging mountain runs. Many of the bands playing in the on-slope restaurant Le Rond Point have gone on to genuine chart success.

Val d’Isere

Val d'isere is the perfect mix between a great night out and a great run on the slopes. It is also situated in a picturesque village with a high chance to do some celeb spotting.

Val Thorens

Val Thorens has the highest lifts in the Trois Vallees and some of the most challenging skiing in France. There is always a high risk of bad weather due to this, but the nightlife will help you pass some time if needed.

Les Menuires

This destination is full of great, wide runs for beginners, with Val Thorens and La Masse close by for the more advanced skier.

Avoriaz

Avoriaz is a 1960s-inspired resort. Intermediates should head to the top of Chavanette to encounter the infamous ‘Wall’. A ridiculously steep mogul run and a right of passage for many skiers.
