The Party Animal Visits...Switzerland

Hello, again. I begin with “Hello, again” though truthfully, the more appropriate opening statement might to be offer an initial farewell, as sadly, this will be the final trip which I share with you lovely people.

Not to worry though, as I’ll be leaving you in the extremely capable hands of The Culture Vulture, a very dear friend of mine.

The charming alpine resort of Zermatt in Switzerland will be my final destination. Famed for an unforgettable nightlife, guaranteed snow and some of the best mountain restaurants in the World. I was rather excited to say the least.

Zermatt, Switzerland.

So, here we go. My last ever stay on the slopes in your good company. I decided to begin my trip with an activity perhaps more suited to my successor, The Culture Vulture, than to me. I ventured up toward the ‘Glacier Grotto’, which is the World’s highest ice museum, before taking advantage of the cable car service and heading up to the top of the Klein Matterhorn to take a look around the glacier caves, which I had been strongly encouraged to check out before even setting foot on the slopes.

After a good morning’s stint on the slopes, where I started off a little rusty but soon eased my way back into my more usual, relaxed rhythm, I enjoyed an hour or so of downtime in the resort’s indoor swimming pool, soothing my muscles, which were a little perturbed by the transition from walking to skiing, as is often the case.

Heading back to my hotel room, I got ready to head out for the evening, to sample the World-famous Zermatt nightlife. What better way to sign off as ‘The Party Animal’ than to enjoy one final bar crawl, before heading to ‘Broken Bar’, a nightclub in the heart of the resort.

There was something almost euphorically special about my night in Zermatt. ‘Papperla Pub’ and ‘Elsie’s Bar’, the two haunts I headed to before walking (staggering) in the direction of the club, had a buzzing atmosphere, with a welcoming crowd and enchanting interior.

Thank you Zermatt, you were an excellent sign-off. See you around sometime, guys.
