Hello. It’s me. I was wondering if after all these weeks you were ready for more tales of my skiing exploits in and around Europe and the Americas? (That was an Adele reference for you non-pop literate folk.)

I’m aware you’ll be (subconsciously if not consciously) comparing me to my predecessor, The Beginner. True, he may have had some degree of adorable naivety and innocence - and, perhaps you may find me comparatively more arrogant. Tough. He’s gone now - you’re left with me.

So - Ruka. Famed as one of the most beautiful ski resorts in the World, with its magical conditions offering a ‘Winter Wonderland’ of sloping amusement. It’s also made a name for itself among the skiing community for the quality of its off piste activities.

With this in mind, I thought what better way to start my Ruka adventure than with one of said activities? Turning down ice fishing and husky dog sledding, I went for the coolest sounding of the lot - the ‘Snowmobile Safari’.

The name didn’t let me down either. With hundreds of kilometres of prepared tracks, it was certainly one of the more exhilarating things I’ve ever done on a skiing holiday (and I’ve taken on several black runs.)

To the skiing, and on my second day in Ruka I emerged from the (incredibly) cosy chalet I stayed in, enjoying 7 hours of pure uninterrupted piste gold. Utterly brilliant. I couldn’t have created a more perfect slope if I’d imagined it.

Fast forward to my final night and I decided it high time, after three nights in at the chalet, exhausted from completely bleeding that snow dry, to venture out into Ruka’s bars. The rest, as they say, is history.

A resort which keeps you entertained every second that you’re there, and one where you can experience a SNOWMOBILE SAFARI. Enough Said?

Next Time: The first time I’ve gone outside of Europe - it’s Whistler, Canada.
