Austria is made up of 2 large ski areas the Arlberg ski area and the Ski Welt area. The Arlberg area has over 35 ski resorts which are perfect for group skiers and snowboarders, and the Ski Welt area with its world famous resorts including; Ellmau, Soll, and Zell Am See.

There are rumours flying around that Austria is edging ever closer to overtaking France in the popularity stakes. These rumours are backed up with stats to, with France losing 4% of the marketing while Austria gained 2%.

Austria has developed its own reputation as being the better value for money destination, and with is variety of snowscapes to suit families, first timers, “off-pisteers” and those who are just there to enjoy the apres ski. Alpbach

Alpbach is a beautiful destination with around 2,600 inhabitants, it is located 1,000 m above sea level on a sunny plateau of the Alpbach valley. The ski area of Alpbach recently merges two resorts, Tyrolean ski and Alpbach Valley, to generate the new “Ski Jewel Alpbachtal Wildschonau”. Here is how the new resort shapes up:

Gosau

Gosau is an idyllic town located in Upper Austria's Salzkammergut region, with great views to the spiky Gosau Ridge and its renowned Dachstein Glacier. Gosau is a great destination for families, with lots of different activities for the little ones. Here is the resorts highlights:

Soll has been very popular with British beginners and intermediates for a long time, it is popular with both young people and families. The highlights of this resort are:

  • Direct links Westendorf and Kirchberg to Kitzbühel. Adding another 54 lifts and 168km to the total.
  • Lively Apres Ski
  • Beginner runs at the base of the mountain
  • Main runs clusters around Hochsoll
  • Halfpipe and terrain parks for the boarders
  • Two main ski schools
