Kranjska Gora Guide
Kranjska Gora is Slovenia’s most popular resort, a classic alpine village, offering spectacular views, high standards of hotel and all at a respectable price. Its one of Europe’s most excellent value for money areas, not only is it reasonable to get to, its also extremely good value in resort.
It’s a resort which offers something for everyone, especially beginners, new skiers and families, but also keep boarders, intermediates and advanced skiers entertained and regularly hosts the FIS World Cup races, so overall an brilliant place to ski.
Beginners will start on the nursery slopes a short walk from the resort centre, taking lessons from Kranjska Goras Ski school, then venturing further up the Vitranc Mountain to experience the wide, cruisy blues from the summit. Families are well catered for to, the greens and blues are generally uncrowded and perfect for children, and the tuition available and child care facilities re second to none.
Intermediates will enjoy the long reds on the Vitranc Mountain and also have the option of skiing further afield on an all area lift pass, so choices here are endless.
Advanced skiers have a multitude of runs to choose from, as they too can go further afield once you have tried all Kranjska Goras blacks and off piste opportunities. However there is some amazing steep runs on the Podkoren mountain, often used for World Cup downhill competitions.
Boarders have a fantastic snow park to try, with its on half pipes and quarter pipes, kickers and jumps. Not to mention, cool uncrowded blues and reds, and choices of trying other resorts on the same lift pass.
Apres ski in Kranjska Gora is varied, a good selection of lively bars and quiet cosy inns to choose between and some of Slovenia’s best restaurants, with lovely locally produced meats and cheese to try. And non skiers have unlimited activities to keep them entertained, skating, swimming, sleigh rides, casino and lots of excursions to surrounding lakes and cities.
