Livigno Guide

Winter entertainment in Livigno is second to none, and the shopping opportunities here are brilliant for picking up a bargain being one of the few duty free resorts throughout Europe. With slopes up to 2800 metres, Livigno has one of the longest ski seasons and an excellent snow record with particularly excellent slopes for beginners and intermediates.

Beginners are extremely well catered for, the nursery slopes are at village level and the local ski school, crèche and kindergarten are also based here, making it easy to get to until you feel steady on your feet. Once you are ready there is some lovely wide blues running from the top of the resort to the bottom of the mountain.

Livigno is an intermediates paradise, with few queues for the lifts. Head up the Caroselo gondola for a large selection of wide sunny piste over 3000 metres then cross the mountain to the stunning Costaccia ski area above the old town. A ski bus will take you to Mottolino area with a more testing terrain and some confidence building blacks to push you on.

Advanced skiers will enjoy the steep blacks on offer here in Livigno and will enjoy the trying reds and long cruisy piste of the Treppalle.

Snowboarders are spoilt for choice, Livigno has 2 extreme snowboard parks, of which the Mottalino has been voted the best in Italy. The latest addition, a new American freestyle park and zoo course with jumps and rails has also upped the fun factor.

The village is a 3 kilometres pedestrianised centre, with an impressive range of bars and restaurants, and the duty free shops will keep everyone occupied. The non skiing activities here are endless, but we must recommend a day trip across the boarder into the chic Swiss resort of St Moritz.
