Soll Guide

This beautiful area is renowned as a perfect example of the ‘Austrian Alpine Ski Experience’ with the first visitors arriving in the 1950′s. This cheerful village was known to be good value for money with access to a decent choice of intermediate skiing and a nightlife that could be very rowdy.

This beautiful village has now outgrown this stereotype, the quality of ski and hotel facilities have improved greatly and the hardcore party animals have moved to other resorts, leaving this an overlooked gateway to one of the largest linked ski areas in Europe. This village boasts an impressive onion-domed church which dates back to the 18th century which dominates the skyline.

In the Autumn, Soll undergoes a transformation to accommodate the many Alpine sports from a sleepy Austrian village to a well renowned place to visit, it is one of the most well known ski resorts in the massive Ski Welt (Ski World) – Wilder Kaiser area.

This resort is re-visited year on year by many of the regular skiers and newcomers alike who wish to enjoy the full scope of the Alpine sports experience. For those just starting out, the beginners’ slopes are located on the other side of the main road to the village at the base of Hochsell gondola.

The more experienced skier may want to walk to the bottom of the lifts or take the ski bus up the short journey to the intermediate slopes of Hochsell or alternatively try their hand at the massive Kitzbuheler Alpen. With 250km of piste available Soll is an ideal choice of location to enjoy all that this simple Tyrolean village has to offer.

Accommodation

Accommodation in this resort varies from informal bed & breakfasts to mid-range traditional Austrian hotels, to the more recent, newer, sophisticated hotels modeled in the traditional chalet style to give that authentic Alpine feel. If you eat out, you will mostly find yourselves in a hotel restaurant; however, there are some mountain cafes and bars that you can try, but in the peak of the season these tend to be very crowded.

In winter freshly made soups are popular to warm you after being in the cold Alpine air – alternatively, why not indulge yourself with the popular Austrian dish Grestli (made with potatoes, eggs and bacon) to get a real feel for the culture.

Nightlife

Nightlife in Soll is really down to personal choice, whether you want to go out drinking with your mates or whether you’d rather spend time relaxing with your family listening to traditional Austrian music, there is something for everyone. ‘Salvenstadl’ claim that they are the best bar in Soll – however, this is more for those that want to indulge themselves in the local tipple into the small hours of the morning than for those who want to wind down.

Whatever you choose to do for your night out, there is something to cater for every taste.

The resort of Soll doesn’t just offer great skiing, it has many other activities. There is sledding during the day or night, a wonderful experience to have with friends and family; hiking trails for those a little more adventurous and cross country skiing if you want to experience the wonder and awe of this beautiful landscape. Curling is fun, or maybe you would prefer to relax at the Panorama swimming baths which boasts an indoor pool where you can float and wash away your cares, a sauna to steam out tired muscles, a massage parlour if you really want to chill out and work on your general wellness and even a tanning studio to boost that holiday glow.
