Hochgurgl is a fabulous resort set high in the Otz Valley, slightly smaller than its neighbouring sister resort of Obergurgl, offering excellent skiing at a less expensive price. Don’t assume that your resort is any less fabulous, in fact Hochgurgl offers many things others resort done, i.e. night skiing and quality accommodation.

Hochgurgl Guide

Hochgurgl offers one of the highest ski areas in Austria, therefore ski season are long and snow sure, over 3000 metres above ski level and offering over 110 kilometres of well groomed piste. This resort attracts families, couples and groups looking for excellent accommodation and genuine Austrian hospitality, its a beautiful place to travel too.

Beginners have two areas to choose from in the Hochgurgl and Obergurgl ski area, both close to the village centres and extremely close to the main lift system too. There is a good selection of uncrowded nursery slopes and dedicated learner areas makes this a fun, safe environment to learn in. Families return here time and time again, due to the excellent facilities on offer for kids, the English speaking ski school and excellent crèche or kindergarten allows you to ski without worrying about the little ones. There is many baby sitting facilities too available throughout the resort and hotels.

Intermediates have the largest selection of areas to ski, with over 55 kilometres of red runs alone, not to mention the difficult blues and the easier blacks. Some of the runs are long and wide and over 7 kilometres in length and the off piste options are great too.

Advanced skiers have some challenging blacks and good moguls, some unprepared routes too, a must is taking in a tour and experiencing the amazing off piste on Wurmkogl and also a day trip to Solden Glacier is well worth a trip.

Snowboarders have a good selection of wide cruisers to improve on, the ski school is famous for boarder tuition and there is a good selection of jumps available in the Festkogl area.

Nightlife

Apres ski in Hochgurgl is relaxed and laid back, there is a handful of cafés, bars and restaurants to choose from and there is always livelier neighbour Obergurgl, with a massive choice of bars too.

Activities

Non ski activities include ice skating, curling, bowling, casino in Obergurgl, snow shoe walking and some beautiful cleared walking trails.

Snow sure slopes, some fabulous conditions, quality accommodation, breathtaking scenery and a nice relaxed atmosphere, all at a fraction of the price!
