Hinterglemm Guide
Skiers of all abilities from beginners to expert will enjoy themselves here but this is a great place for people new to skiing but who wish to enjoy a fun time on their first skiing holiday. The nursery slopes are located very close to the villages so if you need a pit stop you will find one close by. There are actally eight ski schools which offer beginners a good selection from which to choose.
Intermediate skiers will love the massive ski area here. Spread along the valley are many access points. It’s really simple to move up and around the skiing resort of Saalbach Hinterglemm. After investing a lot in new lifts it now means that in this resort there isn’t a lot of queuing.
Expert skiers tend to use the Schattberg X-press lift, or at the Zwïlferkogel, which is north facing, the gondola there, mainly because of the three kilometre black run descent which goes back down under the lift. Alternatively they could ski it out in the 100km off-piste, but always accompanied by a local guide we must add!
In the resort you will see it has a massive choice of lift tickets available to buy, but all tickets will cover you for all the available lifts. Floodlighting has been introduced more recently on the trails under a lift located in the centre of the resort, the Unterschwarzach. This is so the boarders and skiers can carry on throughout the area each evening. If you are a cross country skier you won’t be disappointed as they have 12km of trails which includes a trail which is high altitude, 1.7 km in length and 1800 metres up. The sunny side of the Glemm Valley is where you will find this, which is between Rosswaldhïette and Reiterkogel.
The 52 ski lifts of Saalbach Hinterglemm are able to uplift 84,867 skiers or snowboarders per hour.
Snowboarding in Hinterglemm is fun. You can enjoy professional terrain parks in both Hinterglemm at Unterschwarzachlift and Leogang at the Asitzmuldenbahn. There is a professional specialist crew shaping these parks each day. In the park at Leogang the corner jumps and rails prove to very popular. The park in Hinterglemm is floodlit. Here you can enjoy corners which are steep, great ground waves and speed defying jumps. Snowboarders of all abilities will have plenty to challenge them here.
Nightlife
The Apres Ski in Hinterglemm is most definitely very up beat and lively. Sometimes the partying will begin in restaurants which are right above Saalbach in the mountain before the lifts close in the late afternoon. The wide mix of guests is mainly from Europe and they have a famous reputation for having a great time. The Scandinavians, the Dutch, the British and the Germans are amongst these.
The Apres Ski early evening kicks off in the ice bars which you will find outside of the hotels. These are hugely popular haunts to start the night’s partying. Following this there are loads of bars to try and more than 15 trendy night clubs to venture to. One of the livelier to try in Hinterglemm is the Londoner, then onto the Glemmerkeller for dancing until the early hours. Saalbach has around six places which are great for dancing the night away. The Alibi Bar is one to take note of and a converted prison called the ancient Zum Turn.
Accommodation
Accommodation here in Hinterglemm is varied. There are youth guest houses and hostels which are very popular with students and are excellent value for money too. For a homely feel try one of the local guest houses as they have a friendly welcome and offer rooms on a bed and breakfast basis leaving you able to enjoy the choice of restaurants on offer in the evening. The hotels are all of a high standard and range in price and facilities available. Most have bars and restaurants, some have indoor swimming pools and spas where you can be pampered with a range of beauty and relaxation treatments. Accommodation here in Hinterglemm caters for all tastes and all budgets which mean a fantastic skiing holiday is affordable to anyone, even if you are on a strict budget.
