Family-run for five generations, the Alpenhotel Wittelsbach has built up an impeccable reputation - not least due to the extremely welcoming ambience provided by the owners Marcus and Anya, and their lovely staff. The hotel is continually renovating, never resting on its laurels, which has resulted in an elegant hotel with a touch of sophistication and a serious focus on customer service. The Wittelsbach has probably the best location possible in Ruhpolding - right in the heart of town, so you're never far away from anything - and it hasn't lost even a smidgen of its charm. The design is all about traditional values and each bedroom is individually decorated with warm colours, wooden furniture and plush beds. The unique styling runs throughout and you'll find plenty of inviting spaces to relax - from the cosy Gillitzer's Chalet Lounge to the traditional wood-panelled bar with lovely views. If you love a nice cuppa then the Wittelsbach should definitely be on your 'to stay' list. And we're not talking PG Tips - Marcus is one of only a handful of tea sommeliers in the world. He trained on tea plantations in Sri Lanka and now offers over 60 different types of tea in the hotel, from classic English Breakfast to unique herbal infusions. Joining the regular tea ceremony is a must-try if you want to find out more, and you can also buy tins of your favourite blends to take home.Mealtimes in general are also a treat. The breakfast buffet offers a tempting range of dishes, from fruit and cereal to eggs and pastries. The hard part will be choosing which jams and honeys to try first and, of course, which tea will accompany your meal. If you've got more of a sweet tooth, the creamy hot chocolate is a must. In the evenings, you can expect three courses of delicious Bavarian food, served with a smile.Just in case you have any allergies, it's worth knowing that there are three resident cats and a brown lab called Benji. They're very friendly, so if you're missing your pets at home then you can still get a cuddle.
